I’ve heard Man in the b ox on AM Radio. On what used to be an oldies station. Now its an 80/90's station but that’s what’s left of the small town oldies station format.   The new Oldies are older than the old oldies were when they became oldies if that computes. Anyway, Alice in chains is now golden hits of yesterday. I was in about grade 8 when this came out.

Nooooooooooo. The song’s older than me but I still refuse to see AiC as oldies.

One hell of a debut. They’ve been my favorite band since I was 7 basically. Of course I never knew what the lyrics meant for the most part (I’d googled Layne but I still didn’t “understand” most of it until I was older) but I always loved the dark gloomy sound with Layne’s haunting vocals.

I don’t usually listen to AM, but that just feels weird. This album debuted slightly before my time, and I was too young to appreciate their initial run. I discovered them at the beginning of their second run when I was starting 9th grade. With the airplay of some of their ‘90s hits at the time , I started to dig into their original stuff and found I really loved it. Both eras have a special place in my heart.

Music made for AM mono radio sounds good on AM, like the Beach Boys songs were fine tuned to sound good on a shitty radio. Alice in chains sounds weird, but stations have to change with the times.   I live in Saskatchewan, which is almost the size of Texas with 1/30 the population so some areas out in the sticks offer few choices on the radio.  But in more densely populated areas I’m sure AM is all but dead.   Except baseball, SO much baseball on AM.
